KBJust a heads up on a new ConfigMgr 2007 Knowledge Base article we published today where using Configuration Manager 2007 to change the color depth to 8 bpp does not work on your Windows 7 clients:

=====

Summary

When you set the "Color Depth" to 8 bpp for a Windows 7 client using the Configuration Manager Remote Control tool, nothing changes on the client side.

This occurs because Windows 7 no longer supports 8-bit color depth. Configuration Manager 2007 calls the API IRDPSRAPISharingSession::put_ColorDepth to set color depth. In Windows 7, calling put_ColorDepth at 8 bpp would return success but 16 bpp would be applied.

More Information

You can adjust the color depth used to display a client computer desktop by using the Color Depth command from the View menu of the Configuration Manager Remote Control window. If a color depth is selected that is less than the supported color depth of the client computer, the minimum color depth supported by that client will be used instead. For example Windows 7 does not support 8 bpp color depth. If Configuration Manager Remote Control settings for 8 bpp are selected, when connected to a Windows 7 client the color depth setting will remain set to 8 bpp however the display will be 16 bpp as this is the lowest color depth supported by Windows 7.
