KB: IIS Application Folder SMS_DP_SMSPKG$ anonymous authentication settings periodically reset to Disabled

Here’s a new Knowledge Base article we published today. This one talks about an issue where the IIS Application Folder SMS_DP_SMSPKG$ anonymous authentication settings periodically get disabled:

Symptoms

After enabling Anonymous Authentication in Internet Information Server 7.5 (IIS), randomly the IIS Application Folder SMS_DP_SMSPKG<Partition>$ Anonymous Authentication settings become disabled.

Cause

This can occur if System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr) is installed and Anonymous Authentication is disabled in the Distribution Point (DP) properties.

Resolution

1. In the ConfigMgr console, check the Distribution Point configuration:

a. Site Database\Site Management\xxx-Site name\Site Settings\Site Systems\Site server
b. Right Click ConfigMgr Distribution Point and Select Properties
c. Verify whether the checkbox “Allow Clients to connect Anonymously” is selected. If it is unchecked, please check it.
