Here’s a quick heads up on a new Configuration Manager 2007 KB article we published this morning:
Symptoms
After you install the System Center Configuration Manager Console on a localized version of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), you receive the error "MMC Cannot initialize snap-in". If you try to add the snap-in, you receive an error similar to the one below:
- Name: System Center Configuration Manager
CLSID: FX:{6de537a5-7a1c-4fa4-ac3a-1b6fc1036560}
Cause
This can occur if you install the console on a localized version of Windows XP SP3. For example, if you are running Windows XP Portuguese-Brazilian version, you will receive the message below:
O MMC não pode criar o snap-in . O snap-in pode não ter sido instalado corretamente.
Nome: System Center Configuration Manager
CLSID: FX:{6de537a5-7a1c-4fa4-ac3a-1b6fc1036560}
By default, Windows XP SP3 has MMC 3.0 installed, but this problem occurs because the .dll files of the MMC 3.0 resource are incorrect
Resolution
To resolve this issue, install the hotfix 957502 for the localized version of Windows XP SP3 you are running. For Windows XP Portuguese-Brazilian version, be sure to download PTB file version from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957502 (WindowsXP-KB957502-x86-PTB.exe)
